Flow measurement with very short straight inlet

Reliable measurement of volume flow despite complex installation situation

Flow measurement with very short straight inlet

A customer from the mining industry required a reliable flow measurement system for volumetric flow to ensure that fans maintain a minimum air throughput. However, the available inlet and outlet sections were very short and would normally not be sufficient for precise measurement. Additionally, installing the system behind a fan caused strong flow turbulences, posing an additional challenge.

S.K.I. developed an innovative solution by identifying a suitable installation location. By using two crossed Pitot tubes, a highly reliable measurement was achieved. This measurement principle is based on the sophisticated technical design of the Pitot tubes and the increased measurement resolution, which enables a stable and precise detection of flow conditions.

The measurement results align with findings from extensive field tests conducted by S.K.I. and documented in the technical information (https://www.ski-gmbh.com/files/Downloads/Dokumente/SDF/TI-SDF-en.pdf). This ensured that the fans delivered the required airflow and that the operation could be efficiently controlled.

This solution demonstrates that precise flow measurement is achievable even under challenging conditions. If you are facing a measurement task with shortened inlet sections and limited space, contact us – we will find the right solution together with you.
